The Musical Fantasy
MESSIAH as you've never seen it before
Handel's MESSIAH is a concert hall icon beloved the world over, especially in the Christian community.
Handel's MESSIAH - A Musical Fantasy is a spectacular cinematic re-imagining of that icon — MESSIAH as you've never seen it before.
With a bespoke libretto and score that brings out all the splendour and beauty of Handel's masterwork, the musical fantasy trims down the repetition and some of the less modern concepts in the 1741 original. This cinematic rendition aims to both celebrate and promote the masterwork. It enhances and enlivens it through live performance in natural and fantasy settings that complement the libretto and dazzle the eye.
An iconic masterwork deserves iconic venues. Set unashamedly in Australia, the fantasy begins as a performance in iconic Sydney Opera House, where a surprise half-visible visitor seems to be ensuring all is “just so”.
The fantasy quickly transitions to spectacular Australian outdoor settings where we witness the prophesies of The Messiah's coming, witness the adulation at His birth, follow His ministry and relive His passion. All the while our surprise visitor brings us along.
Next, we find ourselves in an imagining of the gateway to Heaven, where The Messiah's soul lies for 3 days before returning to Earth to fulfil His promise, celebrated in Handel with the majestic “Hallelujah Chorus” and the beautiful aria “I Know that My Redeemer Liveth”.
And then we have “Eternity”. A vision of the end days of the world and the Trinity in Heaven being adulated by countless angels, before the fantasy finally collapses and we find ourselves back in the concert hall as a classic performance of MESSIAH finishes up.
And there is our surprise visitor! Maybe, just maybe, it wasn't a fantasy after all.
With captions in English, Français, Español, Português (Brasil), 简体中文 and 한국인 the fantasy is accessible to half the people in the world.
